Film fighter

yesterday, i popped into the camera store to pick up a roll of film for my new diana camera. i was really excited to try it out but decided against my instinct to just fiddle around with it (till i get it) and opened up the instructions manual. i only bought ONE roll of film to try and i didn’t want to risk ruining it! i followed every step of the instructions but nothing is ever as easy as it looks. after threading the film from left to right, I COULD NOT GET THE FILM TO ROLL AROUND THE EMPTY SPOOL. argh! now, i know i sound really dumb for having trouble with a roll of film but in my defense, it was a 120 film (a medium format film that gives me square pictures) and not the normal kind. i’m not old.. but i’m old enough to have used film camera in my lifetime. in fact, all the “farewell pictures” i took before i left singapore for australia (8 years ago, omg) were all taken with my film camera.

anyway, back to my epic struggle. i had no idea why i was having so much trouble so i decided to google it. i love google because i found a youtube clip showing me how to load my diana camera! perhaps i’m not the only one who has such a problem?

i found out that i was having such a hard time because i didn’t put the flap of paper into the slot before rolling. (nvm if you don’t understand what i’m saying. the bottom line is i discovered what i did wrong haha) in my defense AGAIN, this wasn’t stated in the instructions! they probably weren’t expecting people with THIS little camera knowledge. haha.

120 film gives quite a unique look to the pictures but they are expensive. i’m considering getting a 35mm film adaptor (the normal film!) for my camera because they are cheap to buy, cheap to develop and are readily available.
